Rising Sun, Rising Equality: Japan’s LGBTQ+ Journey

Japan takes a progressive step forward as the Supreme Court declares a previous law regarding the sterilization of transgender people unconstitutional. This ruling has sparked conversations about Japan’s attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community on a whole and the legislation surrounding them. As an influential country in the region, many wonder what this change in attitude could mean for other laws within states of the area. This brings us to the questions of how we got here, and where we may be heading next.
