From high school football to the highest peaks of professional sport, cross-town rivalries drive ticket sales and pique interest. There's just something about a town that happens to only be big enough for one sheriff having two of them that makes people choose sides and root accordingly. Sometimes it's geographical, other times ideological, but there's no question cross-town rivalries are popular.
