On Wednesday, Fox walked out of the Madison County Jail, surrounded by friends and family, just a week after his 2022 manslaughter conviction was overturned.
His release also comes just hours after the same Mississippi Court of Appeals granted a motion to waive the 21-day waiting period before its order reversing the conviction went into effect.
Typically, individuals who have their convictions overturned must wait 21 days before their release to give opponents a chance to appeal.
Because the verdict was rendered by the Appeals Court, only the Mississippi Attorney General could appeal, and she did not.
Not only is Fox a free man, but he also has a job.
On Tuesday, the Clinton Board of Aldermen approved Chief Ford Hayman’s request to re-hire Fox. He will return to work as a K9 narcotics detective.
“This is truly a blessing for Fox to be back where he belongs,” Hayman said in a news release. “Our city and our community are safer with Anthony Fox at work. I am happy that he will be returning to our detective squad.”
