Underwater Forensics and Body Recovery: Interview with Expert Luke Jevne, Underwater Criminal Investigator

Welcome to the wild world of Underwater Criminal Investigation. Bet you didn’t know that was a thing, huh? Well, we didn’t either. Tag along with us while we get the amazing opportunity to interview a Certified Underwater Criminal Investigator and Expert Diver, Luke Jevne. Listen in to the dark (quite literally), yet fascinating, world of Underwater Forensics and the brave individuals, like Luke, who risk their lives to assist law enforcement in evidence, body and vehicle retrieval as well as bring closure to victims’ families.
Let’s meet our wonderful guest, Luke Jevne:
Luke Jevne is a part of the Underwater Search and Rescue Team based out of Alberta, Canada that is a specialized dive team that focuses on evidence, vehicle, and body recovery. Luke has been diving since 1997 and in 2018, he joined the Central Alberta Rescue Diving Society o/a Underwater Search Team. In 2020, Luke became the President of the Underwater Search Team, commanding 24 members who volunteer at Underwater Search Team. As an approved contractor for the medical Examiner in Alberta for the past 4 years, nearly 20 years of active firefighting and 5 years of underwater recovery, Luke has dealt with a multitude of traumatic experiences; he has recovered dozens of victims who have lost their lives to drowning, retrieved numerous pieces of evidence, and has recovered multiple vehicles contaminating Alberta’s pristine waterways. Luke has spent an upwards of 1600 hours a year since becoming President not only responding to every call, but taking on the day-to-day operations of the team, who are all volunteers. In 2022, Luke became one of the highest certified Public Safety Divers in Alberta after completing multiple ERDI courses and courses to be certified as an Underwater Criminal Investigator.
