Georgia and Amanda explore what it’s like to be a carer. They’ve dragged Amanda’s non-sexual life partner Michelle Willoughby into the fray as the resident expert. Michelle shares her experience as a carer and her work for Neighbourhood Community Houses Victoria.
Michelle has lived experience as a carer. Her mother lives with Huntington’s disease. Huntington's disease is a rare, inherited disease that causes the progressive breakdown (degeneration) of nerve cells in the brain. Huntington's disease has a wide impact on a person's functional abilities and usually results in movement, thinking (cognitive) and psychiatric disorders.
Medications are available to help manage the symptoms of Huntington's disease. But treatments can't prevent the physical, mental and behavioural decline associated with the condition.
Amanda also interviews a carer in her life and resident expert Michelle Willoughby says pertinent things while Georgia and Amanda are busy bringing the tone down.
