 The killings of Indian mercenaries on the frontlines of the Ukraine-Russia war has provoked concern in India. But Indian mercenaries have served in foreign battlefields for generations. In the nineteenth century, Bengal’s Suresh Biswas even fought with distinction in Brazil.  Instead of turning a blind eye to the problem, India should join the world in legalising and regulating the operations of private military contractors.
