To discuss the recent Deliveroo and Ubereats strikes, we're joined by Dr Adam Badger, lecturer in economic geography at Newcastle University, whose work focusses on the platform economy, gig work and urban planning.
We talk about Adam's time as a delivery worker and the ways apps have made the lives of drivers and cyclists more difficult, and even life-threatening. We also discuss how the increasing power given to platform economy companies have altered the physicality of cities, the effects it has had on housing and public services.
Finally, we discuss how consumers can help workers as the apps continue to chase scale at the expense of their health and wellbeing.
