What does heaven look like? This week on Battle Drill Daily Devotionals, we focus on what Jesus has to say to us about heaven. Each weekday we share hope and encouragement as we read and study the Bible together.
SummaryWhat does heaven look like? Whatever you have imagined heaven looks like, the reality will far exceed it!
IntroductionDo you have an idea of what heaven looks like? Many people picture angels dressed in white, sitting on clouds, and plucking harp strings. Indeed, the poets have often pictured heaven this way.
What Does Heaven Look Like? Ask JesusTo answer the question, What does heaven look like, the best source is Jesus. He spoke about the Kingdom of Heaven on many different occasions. In our Bible passage for this week, he speaks of the Kingdom of Heaven as being like a mustard seed planted in a field, and like a treasure hidden in the field and a pearl of great value.
What does heaven look like according to Jesus? First, it is growing. Heaven is for you and me. We are not designed to live on Earth forever. Heaven is our forever home, just as it is for all of Jesus' followers. By mentioning the birds that come and nest in the branches of the mustard tree, Jesus is making it clear heaven is for everyone who believes in him. That's why it is growing!
Secondly, Jesus says heaven is valuable. The man who discovers the treasure hidden in a field sells everything he owns to buy the field, and according to the laws of Jesus' time, possess the hidden treasure. The merchant who discovers the pearl of great value similarly sells his possessions to buy the pearl.
Heaven Will Far Exceed Our Imaginations! What does heaven look like? Whatever you have imagined heaven looks like, the reality will far exceed it! Make sure you're a part of the Kingdom of Heaven today.
