He lied about his age, joined the Texas Rangers in 1878, and was assigned the most lawless district in the state. His law enforcement career came to an end in 1932 when he was forced into retirement. During that long, diverse and colorful career, Jefferson Davis Milton worked 32 years with one arm. He had lost use of his left arm in a gunfight in Fairbank, Arizona Territory.
