John the Perspective: Grasping John’s Gospel

-How he (John) viewed Christ as he penned the gospel.

John 1: 14

Son of God: reference to Christ is used 10+ times in the Gospel of John. More than any other gospel.

We often miss the significance of that term. Psalm 8:4 (He drew parallelism: same truth stated twice but with a little bit of change)

Affirmation of Christ’s deity.

Son of God = Nature of God

3 Major Ideas from the Prologue of John

1. God’s son among men

• Eternity of Christ – paramount importance that you understand Christ has always “been” – he wasn’t “created” in Mary.

John 1: 1-3  Micah 5:2 > Christ is not a “created” being, he is from “everlasting”

2. Hostility our Lord Met
