Mousecapades Walt Disney World & Disneyland Podcast
Society & Culture:Places & Travel
Disney legend Richard M. Sherman (of the famed songwriting team the Sherman brothers) passed on Saturday, May 25, 2024. He was 95 years old. As one of the most prolific composer-lyricists in the history of family entertainment, and a key member of Walt Disney’s inner circle of creative talents, Richard garnered nine Academy Award nominations (winning two Oscars® for his work on the 1964 classic Mary Poppins), won three GRAMMY® Awards, and received 24 gold and platinum albums over the course of his 65 year career. His career ran the gamut from the early days of rock n’ roll (with such hits as “You’re Sixteen”) and television to Broadway and Hollywood.
This is an episode rewind from about 6 years ago when Vickie and Kaley highlighted some of the amazing songs of the Sherman brothers duo on the podcast. We wrap up this tribute today with part 2 (part 1 aired last week). Take a moment to enjoy these great songs and also reflect on the impact and influence of the Sherman brothers on the Disney brand. These songs are some of our absolute favorites! Enjoy!
