Featured in TIR Episode 341 (Part 1 of 2): Singer-composer Brenda Bennett, best known for her work with Prince protege groups Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6. Their hits included “Nasty Girl” and “Sex Shooter,” and she also can be heard on Prince’s “17 Days.” Having sung lead on songs like “Blue Limousine,” “Bite the Beat,” “Some Kind of Lover” and “A Million Miles,” as a member of those groups she also toured with Prince and appeared in the movie “Purple Rain.”
Prior to Prince, she was a member of the band Ken Lyon and Tombstone and performed on concert bills with Mott the Hoople and Queen. She is a two-time inductee of the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame, and continues to release her own music.
