GUEST 1 OVERVIEW: Sir Gerald Howarth served as Minister for International Security Strategy from 2010 to 2012 and was the Conservative MP for Aldershot from 1997 to 2017. Educated at Haileybury, Bloxham School, and the University of Southampton, he began his career in international banking before entering politics. He was the Conservative MP for Cannock & Burntwood from 1983 to 1992 and a Shadow Defence Minister from 2002 to 2010. Gerald is married and has three children.

His research has a particular emphasis on how culture, values, and ideologies influence state behaviour. Ralph has written for Unherd, Spiked, the Wall Street Journal and other publications about energy, and geopolitics.
