The traditional account has Jesus born in a stable because that is where mangers are to be found. However in many middle eastern homes today and in Jesus' day, mangers are found in the living room of homes. A proper reading of Luke 2.1-7 tells us Jesus was born in an ordinary peasant village home - a common-place ordinary birth just like any other Palestinian peasant birth.
