Community is a word like family, a word that is loaded with hope and disappointment. The church, as the incarnational body of Christ today, is a gathering of people, the water of whose lives has been turned into wine by the work of the Holy Spirit. But it is not just individuals who are changed in the incarnational community. The world around us is changed. In John 2:1-11, Jesus changes water to wine at a wedding in Cana. Pastor Roy Hange, who co-pastors at Charlottesville Mennonite Church and serves as overseer of the district of Virginia Mennonite Conference of which Park View Mennonite Church is a part, unpacked some of the meaning of this story. Pastor Roy asked us how we are opening ourselves to the Holy Spirit to become a church like no other. 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 lists the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts are for the common good, not just for us but for the whole world.
