For decades, a consistent, bipartisan goal of American foreign policy has been to minimize the Kremlin’s presence in and influence over the Middle East.
With good reason. Where the Russians are involved, bad things generally happen – for the people most immediately affected, for regional stability and for U.S. security interests.
Now, however, President Obama has facilitated not only Moscow’s reemergence as a power in the Mideast, but increasingly its displacement of the United States there.
The latest and most dramatic example is the new, multi-billion dollar weapons deal Russia announced this week with Egypt. President Obama has alienated the Egyptian military, government and people with his insane support for the Muslim Brotherhood. And, predictably, they chose a new sponsor.
We are likely to pay dearly for Team Obama’s driving Egypt into Putin’s arms.
