When we are facing tough times, we can’t imagine how any of the pain could contribute to a positive purpose in our lives. When the escrow falls through, or you don’t get into the college of your dreams, or your boyfriend dumps you, it is easy to assume that no good can come from your negative circumstances. When time is passing and we’re not getting better, we jump to the conclusion that God is distant and uninvolved in our lives. All we can see at such times is our suffering. We don’t always understand the meaning of it all when we’re in the middle of misery. But sometimes we are granted the perspective to look back on trials and see how God was working all along according to our best interest.
This weekend we come to a classic verse in the Book of Romans that tells us that God can even use bad things in our lives toward a good end. Rom. 8:28 is often misunderstood and misapplied. Come worship with us as we take this verse apart, examine it carefully, and put together a better understanding of how “in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
