Jesus had just done his most public miracle yet, He raised Lazarus from the dead
[Jhn 12:9 ESV] When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus was there, they came, not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
[Jhn 12:10 ESV] So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well,
[Jhn 12:11 ESV] because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.
*That is the true heart of man.
[Jhn 12:12 ESV] The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.
[Jhn 12:13 ESV] So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!"
[Jhn 12:14 ESV] And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,
[Jhn 12:15 ESV] "Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!"
Zechariah, The Prophet[Zec 9:9 ESV] Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
[Zec 9:10 ESV] I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.
[Jhn 12:16 ESV] His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.
[Jhn 12:17 ESV] The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness.
[Jhn 12:18 ESV] The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign.
[Jhn 12:19 ESV] So the Pharisees said to one another, "You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him."
Even non-Jews were interested in seeing Jesus. [Jhn 12:20 ESV] Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks.
[Jhn 12:21 ESV] So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus."
[Jhn 12:22 ESV] Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.
[Jhn 12:23 ESV] And Jesus answered them, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
Glorified? 1. He proclaims Truth and warns the people. 2. Performs Miracles. 3. Becomes the sacrifice for sin, to satisfy God’s Justice and Wrath.
*It is God’s Holiness, Righteousness, Justice, Sin will be punished with death.
The Wages of sin is death and someone must pay for your evil.
[Jhn 12:24 ESV] Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
[Jhn 12:25 ESV] Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
Look for signs of Sanctification. Do you increase your hate in the way life is so fleeting?
Look at Jesus: This is not a suggestion, but a sobering commandment, that reveals the true nature of your heart.
[Jhn 12:26 ESV] If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
[Jhn 12:27 ESV] "Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? But for this purpose I have come to this hour.
Look at Jesus prayer! Is that your heart’s cry? Isn’t the #1 command to Love God?[Jhn 12:28 ESV] Father, glorify your name." Then a voice came from heaven: "I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again."
[Jhn 12:29 ESV] The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to him."
[Jhn 12:30 ESV] Jesus answered, "This voice has come for your sake, not mine.
[Jhn 12:31 ESV] Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out.
[Jhn 12:32 ESV] And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself."
[Jhn 12:33 ESV] He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die.
[Jhn 12:34 ESV] So the crowd answered him, "We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?"
Who is this Son of Man? [Dan 7:13 ESV] "I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him.
[Dan 7:14 ESV] And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.
John 3. “Lifted Up” [Jhn 3:14 ESV] And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
[Jhn 3:15 ESV] that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
[Jhn 3:16 ESV] "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
[Jhn 3:17 ESV] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
[Jhn 3:18 ESV] Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Jesus Warns the People. [Jhn 12:35 ESV] So Jesus said to them, "The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.
[Jhn 12:36 ESV] While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them.
The heart of man hates the Creator! [Jhn 12:37 ESV] Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him,
[Jhn 12:38 ESV] so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: "Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"
[Jhn 12:39 ESV] Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said,
[Jhn 12:40 ESV] "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them."
[Jhn 12:41 ESV] Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke of him.
Belief without response is still dead. [Jhn 12:42 ESV] Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue;
[Jhn 12:43 ESV] for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.
Jesus proclaims He is the way to God! [Jhn 12:44 ESV] And Jesus cried out and said, "Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me.
[Jhn 12:45 ESV] And whoever sees me sees him who sent me.
[Jhn 12:46 ESV] I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.
The Word of God; The Bible will judge the world.
[Jhn 12:47 ESV] If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
[Jhn 12:48 ESV] The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.
[Jhn 12:49 ESV] For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment--what to say and what to speak.
[Jhn 12:50 ESV] And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me."
The next time Jesus returns, it will not be on a donkey, but on battle horse.
He will not be killed, but He will do the killing.
[Rev 19:11 ESV] Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.
[Rev 19:12 ESV] His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself.
[Rev 19:13 ESV] He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.
[Rev 19:14 ESV] And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses.
[Rev 19:15 ESV] From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.
Everyone who rejected Jesus, will receive the Wrath of God. [Rev 19:16 ESV] On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
The human armies will not win.
[Rev 19:17 ESV] Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, "Come, gather for the great supper of God,
[Rev 19:18 ESV] to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great."
[Rev 19:19 ESV] And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army.
[Rev 19:20 ESV] And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.
[Rev 19:21 ESV] And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
The most important decision of your existence is how you respond to Jesus[Heb 10:26 ESV] For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
[Heb 10:27 ESV] but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.
[Heb 10:28 ESV] Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses.
[Heb 10:29 ESV] How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?
[Heb 10:30 ESV] For we know him who said, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge his people."
[Heb 10:31 ESV] It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
You want to be on the winning team. [Psa 32:10 ESV] Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD.
[Psa 32:11 ESV] Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
