Shirley Yoder Brubaker grew up imagining herself as a peace-maker. Focusing on Romans 12:9-21, Shirley spoke of how we wage peace today, when life is complicated and the way of peace is not always apparent or easy. The Apostle Paul gives some guidelines for ethical and moral living within a faith community that was deeply divided. Conservatives and progressives had different understandings of what it meant to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ. If we as a church can live in the spirit of Paul's writing to the church in Rome, then perhaps we can continue to work together as we join in God's mission to the world.
