Previously in Chapter 10!
The Old Testament Moral Law is satisfied!
[Heb 10:16 ESV] "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,"
[Heb 10:17 ESV] then he adds, "I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more."
[Heb 10:18 ESV] Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
A Recap; The Holy of Holies, Through The Curtain, Great High Priest.
[Heb 10:19 ESV] Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,
[Heb 10:20 ESV] by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh,
[Heb 10:21 ESV] and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
Our Response:
Draw Near
[Heb 10:22 ESV] let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Hold Fast
[Heb 10:23 ESV] Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
Encourage Other Christians via Fellowship & Ministry.
[Heb 10:24 ESV] And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
[Heb 10:25 ESV] not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Those who hear the Gospel and do not respond have offended God the Father to outrage.
[Heb 10:26 ESV] For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
[Heb 10:27 ESV] but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.
To reject the Gospel is worse than breaking the 10 commandments. Because, Now it’s Personal!
[Heb 10:28 ESV] Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses.
[Heb 10:29 ESV] How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?
[Heb 10:30 ESV] For we know him who said, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge his people."
Greater the Grace, Worse the Punishment!
As Jesus Sent out His Disciples.
[Mat 10:11 ESV] And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart.
[Mat 10:12 ESV] As you enter the house, greet it.
[Mat 10:13 ESV] And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.
[Mat 10:14 ESV] And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town.
[Mat 10:15 ESV] Truly, I say to you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.
The Gospel:
We are all guilty of breaking God’s Moral Law.
We are all condemned to Eternal Punishment because we are guilty.
Jesus fulfilled the Just requirements of God’s law by taking our punishment instead of us.
God can legal dismiss our Case.
There is no other way to get God’s Grace and Mercy, but through His Son.
Now keep in mind, God is not obligated to give us Grace & Mercy, He is obligated to give us Justice.
[Heb 10:31 ESV] It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
But! Enlighted!
[Heb 10:32 ESV] But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings,
[Heb 10:33 ESV] sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated.
[Heb 10:34 ESV] For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one.
People either Accept or Attack the Gospel
[Heb 10:35 ESV] Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.
Confidence in what? The Gospel!
[Heb 10:36 ESV] For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.
[Heb 10:37 ESV] For, "Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay;
[Heb 10:38 ESV] but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him."
[Heb 10:39 ESV] But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.
Communion
[1Co 11:23 ESV] For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread,
Bread:
[1Co 11:24 ESV] and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me."
[1Co 11:25 ESV] In the same way also he took the cup,
Wine:
after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."
[1Co 11:26 ESV] For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
