“Can’t Get No Satisfaction.” The song recorded by the Rolling Stones in 1965 could be described as the battle cry of the last several generations. The more we fail to find joy and satisfaction in life, the more we try. The more we try, the more we are left frustrated. The next toy, the next thrill, the next relationship… they just don’t bring the satisfaction we thought they’d bring.
Perhaps we’ve got it all wrong. Maybe we have sought satisfaction and joy in things not meant to fill our hearts. Two-thousand years ago, a man sitting in prison wrote a short letter about how his life contained so much joy. In the midst of difficult circumstances, this individual managed to live a satisfied life. More than ever, we need his insights into how this can be possible.
In Part 1, we see how having the right focus in life enables us find satisfaction even when life is tough.
