Dennis Goodman, MD, FACP, FACC, FCCP
Dennis Goodman, M.D. is one of the nation’s premier cardiologists, consistently named one of “America’s Top Physicians” and “Top Cardiologists” by Castle Connolly (an industry firm that rates doctors). The New York Times and New York Magazine have also named him one of New York’s top doctors.
Dr. Goodman is the Director of Integrative Medicine at NYU, where he also serves as Clinical Associate Professor and Cardiologist in the Leon H. Charney Division of Cardiology and Preventative Medicine. His area of special interest is prevention, early detection, and treatment of cardiovascular disease with an integrative approach for optimal patient health care.
Dr. Goodman has presented at hundreds of cardiac symposiums and authored numerous articles on heart function and health in peer-reviewed journals such as the American Heart Journal and the American Journal of Cardiology.
Born in South Africa, Dr. Goodman graduated Cum Laude from the University of Cape Town Medical School in 1979. He interned at Grootte Schuur Hospital in Cape Town (where the first heart transplant was performed in 1969). He moved to the U.S. and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh as Chief Medical Resident. He did his cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine (associated with Dr. Michael DeBakey) in Houston, Texas. He is now Board Certified in internal medicine, cardiology, interventional cardiology, critical care, clinical lipidology, holistic/integrative medicine and Cardiac CT imaging.
In 1988, Dr. Goodman joined Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California, where he became Chief of Cardiology and Medical Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. He also served at the renowned Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in La Jolla. From 1989 to 2009 he served as Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of San Diego. From 2009 to 2010, he was Director of the Chest Pain Unit for Bellevue Hospital at NYU.
