Marsha Marcoe, Director of Philanthropy, Planned Giving & Major Gifts, the first position of its kind at the Braile Institute in Santa Barbara joins eHealth Radio and the Eye Health and News Channels.

• Tell us a little about your fundraising efforts at the Braille Institute in Santa Barbara California.  How did you move from being a marriage and family counselor into fundraising arena?
• The psychology of giving is a very unusual aspect of psychology. Studies show that generous behavior results in positive feelings on the part of the donor. How does that work?
• Do you find that donors feel happiest if they give to a charity via a friend, relative or social connection rather than simply making an anonymous donation to a worthy cause?
• We’re coming up on the end of the year holiday season – why do people donate more at this time? 
• The ice bucket challenge was a huge success. Was there more motivating donors than just donating to a good cause?
• Tell our listeners why they should consider donating to a good cause.  What’s in it for them – will they be happier and healthier?

Marsha Marcoe, MFT, is the Director of Philanthropy, Planned Giving & Major Gifts, the first position of its kind at the Braile Institute Santa Barbara. Her primary responsibility is to develop, promote and implement a planned giving and major giving program in Santa Barbara. In addition, she assists in increasing community awareness of Braille Institute’s life changing services and build strategic relationships with major philanthropic, civic and community service stakeholders.
Marsha’s previous employment includes Associate Executive Director and Interim Director for Domestic Violence Solutions for Santa Barbara County; Corporate Liaison for the Donald Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, UC Santa Barbara; Associate Dean of Development for the College of Creative Studies, UC Santa Barbara; and Director of Development for Child Abuse Listening & Mediation.
Marsha attended Antioch University, Los Angeles, where she received a MA in Clinical Psychology and a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society. She holds membership in American Fundraising Professionals; Philanthropic Giving Index Panel of Fundraising Experts from Indiana University Center of Philanthropy; and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.  She is active in the community where she is a member of the Women’s Fund North and South County.
