Zombie Hunting

What is a zombie? 

Living dead or animated dead people. 

They are reanimated by either magic, or science or a virus, etc.  

Zombies are fictional 

Can anyone think of any famous zombies? 

Frankenstein, a mummy, Solemn Grundy, Minecraft, 

What do zombies really look like? 

However God talks about such creatures.  Creatures that are alive, but dead. 

Real life zombies.

[Eph 2:1 ESV] And you were dead in the trespasses and sins

[Eph 2:2 ESV] in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience--

[Eph 2:3 ESV] among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

[Rom 7:14 ESV] For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin.

[Rom 3:10 ESV] as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one;

[Rom 3:11 ESV] no one understands; no one seeks for God.

[Rom 3:12 ESV] All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one."

[Rom 3:13 ESV] "Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive." "The venom of asps is under their lips."

[Rom 3:14 ESV] "Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness."

[Rom 3:15 ESV] "Their feet are swift to shed blood;

[Rom 3:16 ESV] in their paths are ruin and misery,

[Rom 3:17 ESV] and the way of peace they have not known."

[Rom 3:18 ESV] "There is no fear of God before their eyes."

[Rom 3:19 ESV] Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.

[1Jo 3:14 ESV] We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death.

[1Jo 3:15 ESV] Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

Zombies cannot understand moral goodness. 

[1Co 3:3 ESV] for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?

[1Co 3:4 ESV] For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not being merely human?

[1Co 2:14 ESV] The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

Zombies are better organized than the movies.  

The have leaders. “false teachers”

[2Ti 3:2 ESV] For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,

[2Ti 3:3 ESV] heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good,

[2Ti 3:4 ESV] treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

[2Ti 3:5 ESV] having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

[2Ti 3:6 ESV] For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions,

[2Ti 3:7 ESV] always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.

Zombie detector,  

The Word of God. 

First use the detector on yourself. 

1. You Love Jesus Christ

Luke 10:27 

And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

2. You want God most of all. . 

Proverbs 8:17  I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.

What does it look like to diligently seek the Lord?

John 14:21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”

Isaiah 55:6-7 

“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

You Love God more than the World.   James 4:4 

You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

3. Psalm 119 is a description of you. 

[Psa 119:4 ESV] You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently.

[Psa 119:5 ESV] Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!

[Psa 119:6 ESV] Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.

[Psa 119:7 ESV] I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules.

[Psa 119:9 ESV] [Beth] How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.

[Psa 119:10 ESV] With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!

[Psa 119:11 ESV] I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

[Psa 119:12 ESV] Blessed are you, O LORD; teach me your statutes!

[Psa 119:13 ESV] With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth.

[Psa 119:14 ESV] In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches.

[Psa 119:15 ESV] I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.

[Psa 119:16 ESV] I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.

[Psa 119:17 ESV] [Gimel] Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word.

[Psa 119:18 ESV] Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.

[Psa 119:19 ESV] I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not your commandments from me!

According to the zombie detector which are you?

Do you love yourself and the world more than the creator of the world? 

Living a life in obedience to Jesus looks a lot like zombie hunting. 

Next week we are going to talk about The Cure, and how hunt a zombie.

The Cure: Death to Life. 

[Jhn 5:24 ESV] Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

[Jhn 5:25 ESV] "Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

[Jhn 5:26 ESV] For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.

[Jhn 5:27 ESV] And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.

[Jhn 5:28 ESV] Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice

[Jhn 5:29 ESV] and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.

The Cure.

[Eph 2:4 ESV] But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,

[Eph 2:5 ESV] even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved--

[Eph 2:6 ESV] and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

[Mat 5:38 ESV] "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'

[Mat 5:39 ESV] But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

[Mat 5:43 ESV] "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'

[Mat 5:44 ESV] But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

[Mat 5:45 ESV] so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

[Mat 5:46 ESV] For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

[Mat 5:47 ESV] And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?

[Mat 5:48 ESV] You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
