The Tilehurst End - A Reading FC Podcast
Sports:Soccer
A couple of weeks ago we were lucky enough to have the chance to catch up with former Reading striker Stuart Lovell about his near decade spent with the football club and what he got up to after he left Berkshire. Now working for the Scottish PFA, Stuart talks us through how he got the nickname 'Archie', what life was like going through the Reading youth system in the late 80's and early 90's plus the size of his very first contract in the professional game.
From there we chronicle his rise into the first team, from his debut goal to his partnership with Jimmy Quinn that saw Reading storm to the Second Division title in 1994. We also cover his success the following season alongside Lee Nogan and why he wasn't convinced with the managerial style of Quinn & Mick Gooding after Mark McGhee left for Leicester.
Then there's the difficult moments, from his penalty miss at Wembley in 1995, to a serious injury that nearly ended his career two years later. Plus, Archie tells us why he left Reading for Scotland and whether he would have ever returned if given the chance.
We discuss all that plus plenty more on his life and career at Reading and beyond in a special Tilehurst End Podcast.
