He took our filthy rags and gave us
His righteous robe.
For us,
He kept the Law,
atoned for sin,
and satisfied God’s wrath.
He took our filthy rags and gave us
His righteous robe.
Imputation
3.
Law. to ascribe to or charge (a person) with an act or quality because of the conduct of another over whom one has control or for whose acts or conduct one is responsible.
4.
Theology. to attribute (righteousness, guilt, etc.) to a person orpersons vicariously; ascribe as derived from another.
ARTICLE 13
We affirm that because of Christ’s life of obedience and death, our sin is imputed to Him and His righteousness is imputed to us by faith.
We deny that our sin is merely overlooked or passed over, and we also deny that Christ’s righteousness is not imputed to us.
Monergy VS Synergy.
[Isa 64:6 ESV] We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Cor. 5:21)
God forgave us of our sins AND declared us Righteous in Christ
The Law helps us see we can’t do.
[Rom 3:20 ESV] For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
[Rom 3:21 ESV] But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it--
[Rom 3:22 ESV] the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:
[Rom 3:23 ESV] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
[Rom 3:24 ESV] and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
Does not do Works of the Law.
[Rom 4:5 ESV] And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,
[Rom 4:6 ESV] just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:
[Rom 4:7 ESV] "Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;
[Rom 4:8 ESV] blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin."
Jesus became our Righteousness
[1Co 1:28 ESV] God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,
[1Co 1:29 ESV] so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
[1Co 1:30 ESV] And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption,
[1Co 1:31 ESV] so that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."
Righteousness comes through Faith in Christ, not works.
[Phl 3:9 ESV] and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—
Sola Fide, by faith alone.
Sola Scriptura, by Scripture alone.
Solus Christus, through Christ alone.
Sola Gratia, by grace alone.
Soli Deo Gloria, glory to God alone.
What about doing good works?
Work’s does not save you, works is the response of the saved.
Call to action: Response.
[Phl 3:8 ESV] Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
Call to Action: Love may Abound more and more.
[Phl 1:9 ESV] And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment,
[Phl 1:10 ESV] so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
[Phl 1:11 ESV] filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
What are the works of the saved?
Great Command
Great Commission
Five Disciplines.
What is most important to you?
Communion
[1Co 11:23 ESV] For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread,
[1Co 11:24 ESV] and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me."
[1Co 11:25 ESV] In the same way also he took the cup,
after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."
[1Co 11:26 ESV] For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
