“Identity Crisis or Identity Deception? When Humanity &
Holiness Collide”
Teacher: Jonathan McGuire
Who are you? What makes you you? Can you be and do
whatever makes you happy? Can you love whomever and
whatever you want? Do you choose your identity, or is it forced
on you from birth?
As Christians, what is our identity, what choice do we have in the
matter, and how does grace play a role? Does God love me if I
identify as a girl even if I was born a boy, identify as black but
was born white, or feel like an adult in a teenage body (or a
teenager in an adult body)? What does my identity have to do
with my humanity, and what does my humanity have to do with
God's holiness?
Identity may be a new topic in TV, politics, schools, and
26
churches, shaping everything we think, feel, and do, but the
answers are old. We sense that who we are and why are vital,
yet the voices screaming into the debate are confusing. These
issues aren't easy, but clarity and certainty are possible through
Christ. This class will address the issues around Identity and
provide answers from Scripture on who we are, how we know,
and what difference it makes one way or the other.
