Golf Insiders: Golf Writers Association of America President, Gary VanSickle foresees weather conditions affecting the leaderboard this week
After several blunders over the past few years, the USGA is under pressure to ensure that this year's US Open goes off without a hitch. While rules officials will be scattered across every hole at Erin Hills, the USGA is relatively helpless against the potentially inclement weather that threatens the area. Gary VanSickle reports that the US Open likes to air on the side of caution when it comes to weather, which may partially explain their decision to cut back the controversial fescue lining the fairways.
On the positive side, players may have an advantage on the greens which should make for some dramatic play over the weekend.
"“It’s hard to see the greens getting firm and fast with this weather.” - Gary VanSickle
