The Sinn Fein MEP Liadh Ni Riada says communities in rural Ireland are losing out on valuable EU funding because of unnecessary red tape. The Ireland South MEP says administrative rules are killing the LEADER programme. It’s an EU-wide initiative that’s supposed to provide funds for projects in rural areas. However, Ms Ni Riada says applicants have to go through a 15-step process that makes it extremely difficult to complete. And she’s warning that projects are folding as a result.
