Catalans “absolute right” to declare independence – Ni Riada

The Sinn Fein MEP Liadh Ni Riada says the European Union should pressure the Spanish government to engage with the Catalonian leaders following last weekend’s independence referendum. The leader of the autonomous region has said that Catalonia will declare independence in a matter of days. The European Parliament will debate the situation in Catalonia later today. Liadh Ni Riada says the violence last weekend by police against the voters was a “huge attack” on democracy.
