UFC 205 Live Coverage – This was the event that so many fight fans had been waiting for. Finally, Madison Square Garden got to experience UFC mania, and in particular, McGregor Mania.
Here is what i wrote about pre-fight – were these questions answered?
- After watching the UFC 205 preview during the Fight Night Mexico City card, I can tell you tha tI am more excited and fired up about it as ever.
- Is there anyone that can promote a fight, as well as self-promote, like Conor McGregor?
- Fighters that hate McGregor need to understand what he is doing and learn from him instead of hating on him. Seriously, is it that hard to understand that he is generating interest beyond what anyone has ever done for the sport? He is interesting. If you hate him, it is probably because you, as a fighter, are not. Be interesting.
- Eddie Alvarez seems to be discounting McGregor as a fighter. Maybe he is just that confident. Maybe he is right. But I don’t see Conor McGregor as somebody who has hand selected fights. He has done everything he said he was going to do in the fights that he has had with the exception of the 1st Diaz fight.
- Eddie Alvarez can win this fight. I truly see it as a toss up at this point. I haven’t looked at the betting lines (I probably should check them out, huh?) but I am assuming that Conor is a favorite. If I had to be, with an even line I would take McGregor, but anything more that a 1½ to 1 favorite, then I think the smart money goes on Alvarez.
- My main concern with Alvarez at this point is him sticking to a game plan and not trying to bang with McGregor. If Alvarez lets this turn into a boxing match or slugfest, I don’t think it will end well for him. If he uses his stand-up to set up his takedowns, I think the ground and pound is where this fight will be won for Alvarez.
- My prediction for McGregor v. Alvarez is …… McGregor by TKO in Round 2.
