MEPs in the European Parliament this morning debated the current state of the Brexit negotiations. Ireland featured strongly during the debate. The EU’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier told MEPs that last week’s deal between the EU and the UK on the first phase of the Brexit negotiations would be translated into a legally binding agreement. During the debate the pro Brexit British MEP Nigel Farage referred to the British Prime Minister Theresa May as “Theresa the appeaser” and he said she had given in on virtually everything on Brexit. However, the Fine Gael MEP Deirdre Clune says last week’s deal paves the way for the next round of negotiations to begin.
