Conservation Voters New Mexico Education Fund response to the Trump Administration’s Delay of BLM Methane Rule

 

Albuquerque, N.M. – December 7, 2017 - Today, the Trump administration finalized a delay on the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) methane rule until January 2019. This impacts New Mexicans directly due to the Four Corner’s “hot spot,” a cloud of methane the size of Delaware, hanging over the San Juan Basin. Conservation Voters New Mexico Education Fund Program Director Molly Sanders released the following statement:

 

“Earlier this year, a bipartisan group of members of Congress rejected the type of special interest pandering that the Trump administration put on display today,” says Molly Sanders, CVNM Education Fund Program director. “The Trump administration continues to demonstrate a dangerous disregard for the health and wellbeing of New Mexicans and today’s reckless action to allow the oil and gas industry to release methane into the air we breathe unchecked directly impacts our communities. In light of these dangerous actions at the federal level, we urge action at the state level to address methane pollution and protect the health of our families.”
