EP 267 Cree Summer: Badass Animation Voice Over Actor | Make Mistakes & Be Fearless
Chuck & Stacey kick off Season 7 of VO Buzz Weekly with the incomparable actor and singer, Cree Summer, from Inspector Gadget, Drawn Together, Tiny Toons, A Different World and so much more. In this interview, Cree talks about growing up with performer and activist parents on an Indian Reservation in Canada and knowing she wanted to be an actress and a singer from an early age. She shares the story of her first voice acting job as Penny in Inspector Gadget working with her father, Don Francks, a renowned voice actor, at the age of 11. After moving to Los Angeles by herself at 16 years old, Cree talks about booking the role of Elmyra in Steven Spielberg’s Tiny Toons and working with voice directing icon, Andrea Romano and voice actors like Jess Harnell, Charlie Adler, and Tress MacNeille. She explains what she learned from them about making mistakes and being fearless, as well as the beauty of the anonymity of being a voice actor. Cree shares wise advice she would give to herself if she were starting her career over today that includes a quote from her father and one of her favorite actresses, Bette Davis. She candidly talks about the times in her career when she thought about doing something else, the dangers of being good at what you do, and not waiting for the expectations of success. Cree discusses some of the roles from her massive body of work that she loves like, Foxxy Love in Drawn Together, Elmyra in Tiny Toons and others.
