The European Parliament today voted for plans to create a single, clear and fair EU corporate tax regime. The vast majority of MEPs supported two reports. The first was the “Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base” (CCCTB) which is part of a wide-ranging proposal to create a fair EU corporate tax regime. The second report creates the basis for a harmonised corporate tax system known as the Common Corporate Tax Base (CCTB). However, the Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes says today’s vote is meaningless as the European Parliament does not have the power to impose tax regimes on EU countries.
