Biblical Truth
To the Core: Values that Drive Us
This past week Spring has shifted into high gear. With all the sunny weather the grass is growing, the trees are blooming, and the weeds in my garden are growing to the size of Goliath. I have been daydreaming about summer BBQs and hiking trips with family and friends. It’s interesting how sunny weather seems to create a perfect setting for allowing our thoughts to wander and dream about the things we love the most. In our heart, we always cherish time with family and friends over good food, but there is nothing like a sunny spring day to encourage our minds to wander as we relive the memories and daydream about summer plans. We can hardly help it; it’s what we love.
Jesus spoke often about the things we value in our hearts. In Luke 6, Jesus teaches that people, like trees, can be recognized by their fruit. The same is true for churches. It is easy to see what a church values by looking at how the people of that church handle the Word of God, worship, and serve. In January, you might recall, a group of Dayspring leaders gathered to daydream and discern God’s plans for our future. We evaluated the fruit of Dayspring to see what it says about our values. We found many values in our review, but seven stood out as core to the life and ministry of our church.
This weekend we are starting a seven-week sermon series that highlights these core values for our church. Our topic this weekend is the core value Biblical Truth; looking at how God’s Truth in the Bible informs and shapes how we live our lives and serve in ministry. Each week we will review another core value as we remember what we value most, and who God has created us to be as a church.
