• What might be the connection between Jesus announcing His mission in Caesarea Philippi (8:31) and Jesus being transfigured on the top of Mount Hermon?
• What did Jesus’ transfiguration actually achieve when it was just to 3 people out of all of humanity? Why did He do it?
• Read Mark 1:11. And then read Mark 9:7. Look at the timing and the circumstances surrounding both pronouncements (what came just before or just after). How are they similar? How are they different?
• Mark threw in a little editor’s comment in 9:6. What might this tell us about Mark’s relationship with Peter?
• The book of Mark was written to the persecuted church in Rome. How might the account of the transfiguration been an encouragement to them in their situation?
