Dr. Gary Singleton
Every January we take some time to revisit our mission – what we believe God has called us to do. Here at The Heights we have stated our mission like this:
Making disciples by taking personal risks to bring the gospel to every relationship.
I am more convinced than ever that we have the right mission. But what exactly do we mean when we talk about making disciples? Most of us focus on ourselves when we hear the word “disciple.” We think that in order to be a disciple we need to do things like pray more, give more, and read our Bible more – and all of that is important. But being a better Christian is not the mission. The mission is to “make disciples.”
So how do we go about doing that? This Sunday I want to share some things that God has been teaching me about what it means to make disciples. I truly believe that if we are to reach this generation, it’s going to happen with people who are making disciples – not just attending church services.
I hope you will join me Sunday as we take a look at what it means to be a disciple, and what we must do to become disciple-makers.
