We resume our series of interviews with those growing the game in cricket's new world with Nick (@HeliocentCric) speaking with Mark Young about cricket in East Timor.
Mark grew up in Lancashire before moving to New Zealand 21 years ago. What started as seeing some kids playing cricket on a beach in East Timor has now developed into the self-confessed cricket tragic sourcing 150kg of donated gear and arranging its shipping from NZ as well as assisting the local cricket association towards a goal of ICC Associate membership.
East Timor is Asia Pacific's youngest country, and with a war-torn recent past, Mark is using Afghanistan's cricketing story as inspiration as he helps develop the sport in parallel with his main role with Volunteer Service Abroad.
Alongside his partner Lara, he's been based in the former Portuguese colony - an hour's flight NW of Darwin - for the past twelve months, assisting the developing country's government to attract foreign investment.
