Psalms 2:6 "Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion."
When I look at this what comes to my heart is God's King and God's Mountain. This naturally speaking of King David, of who the Lord said was after His own heart. Spiritually it is speaking of Christ Jesus our Lord and King. David as God's King had a heart after God. His story is quite significant for us to understand God's work in Christ, and how it applies to us. David was God's King, and through obedience David cut off many of the enemies of Israel, speaking of Jesus cutting off the enemies of our soul.
David taking the fortress of Zion and placing the Ark of the Covenant there has tremendous implications to what Jesus says in John 4 in regards to God's place of Worship.
John 4:21-24 "Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."
"You shall worship the Father in spirit and truth." This is the embodiment of Zion, the High Place of God! Zion is a place of the Spirit, and where we come to know Him in spirit and truth. Here we move from our mind to God's mind. We come in abandonment to ourselves which is clearly seen in David. David's dancing unashamed before the Ark speaks of self-abandonment. He being King of Israel was lowering himself in humility before the Lord. How this speaks of Jesus, who being the Lord of Glory and lowered himself to buy our salvation.
Ultimately, David's heart was to build a house for God, which naturally came through Solomon. This has tremendous spiritual significance. "Christ as a Son over His own House, whose House you are." God desired Zion as His rest forevermore. The writer of Hebrews said we have come to Mt. Zion. God's rest is forever settled in Christ Jesus where we now dwell. We are stones of the building, built up in Christ for a Holy Habitation of the LORD! This is why Zion is the joy of the whole earth. God is there! God's presence is in Zion. Brethren let us comprehend this great truth and reality in Christ Jesus our Lord!
