All four Gospels place everything Jesus did over and against the religion of the day. The reason was the Pharisee's had so distorted the truth that had been given to them, that it was unrecognizable. There is no power on earth greater than such a religion to keep the people from God who loves them. If the people are wanting to find God, they turn to religion. When they find this distorted truth they will turn and flee from God. Therefore it's he greatest of all sin.
