Ireland’s “Tax haven” label by European Parliament “incredibly damaging” – Carthy
A European Parliament report that flags Ireland as a tax haven is incredibly damaging. That’s the verdict from the Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy.
He was referring to the conclusions of a special European Parliament committee that was set up to fight tax crimes at an EU and global level.
MEPs yesterday approved the Committee’s concluding report following a one-year inquiry. The report included a range of recommendations to tackle financial crimes, tax evasion and tax avoidance.
It also produced a number of findings including citing seven EU countries including Ireland for displaying traits of being tax havens and facilitating aggressive tax planning.
