#58 | How many one-hundred-dollar donors are merely waiting for you to go the extra mile?
Of the endless number of case studies that I have heard over the years, I can only recall a few of them that speak so clearly of the opportunity that exists among our current donors and demonstrates the reason why I’m so adamant that fundraisers should be learning how to see far beyond the initial gifts that show up in their new acquisition streams. Among those at the top of my list will now be the experience that Nancy Horvath and Tanya Tucker, both members of the team at Sick Kids in Toronto, shared yesterday afternoon at AFP ICON. Their experience raises the question of just how many one-hundred-dollar donors are merely waiting for you to go the extra mile?
Nancy and Tanya’s story offers several important lessons that can only be learned by paying close attention to our donors’ behavior. I admire that Nancy and Tanya began their story with an admission that their donors’ first gift could have easily been overlooked especially given the backlog of data their program is accustomed to generating. Not only does their story end with a transformational experience for their donors, but Nancy and Tanya’s perspective of how much opportunity may be within arms-reach has been dramatically changed. Without a doubt, they will never look at a $100 gift the same way again.

If you're interested in joining us at an upcoming stop on the How Fundraising Really Works roadshow, it's it important to know that this is not the typical “Tips and Tricks” experience we've grown accustom to. Instead, we're going to confront the real reasons for why most fundraising strategies are designed to fail, challenge everyone’s assumptions about how fundraising really works, and ensure that fundraising professionals know how to be recognized and admired for meaningful work. Anyone who isn’t thinking more critically about the fundraising profession when they leave wasn’t paying attention.
