On Wednesday, May 8, 2019, host Gene Wilhelm talked to Scott Carter from the Diocese of Wichita about parish priest and Army chaplain hopefully on the way to canonization, the late Fr. Emil Kapaun. He was born in 1916 in a very small farming town and raised by a simple family. He was humble and had a great sense of humor. Initially, he wanted to dedicate his life to serving others as a missionary, but he ended up serving as a United States Army chaplain during World War II and the Korean War. Fr. Kapaun felt a call to the Army no matter where he was. A lot of his fellow priests said Fr. Kapaun worked harder than anyone else. In North Korea, when anyone needed Fr. Kapaun, he would pray with the prisoners of war. It is said that he brought peace wherever he went. Even while imprisoned he protected his fellow GI's and prayed for his captors. If you want to learn more about Fr. Kapaun, there are a variety of books and resources at www.fatherkapaun.org. We hope you enjoy this wonderful interview and remember when choosing between the values of heaven and the values of earth, always round up!
