Aberdeen Charity VSA which has the Queen as its Patron is celebrating 150 years in 2020 in style with a Changing Lives Ball at Balmoral Castle. This year 2019 , the event is 2 November at the Ardoe House Hotel The money raised will go towards funding a £3.2 million project to build a mental well being facility in the heart of Aberdeen.
Two long serving volunteers from the Boys Brigade are being honoured by an invitation to a Royal Garden Party at Holyrood. The two men are Michael Strachan and Martin Dunbar. Boys Brigade which began in Glasgow in 1883 has the Queen as its Patron.
A NE man, Paul Fletcher has set up a petition to prompt people to donate stem cells through their blood. This is in memory of Paul's friend Cammy Smith who died from Leukaemia several years ago. Paul has gone a step further and is urging over 10,000 people to sign a petition to Parliament to pass a law so that employers will be obliged to support employees to give stem cells. Paul has successfully persuaded 100 people to sign up to give stem cells and has himself donated stem cells to The Anthony Nolan Trust.
