The Cost of Discipleship
July 14, 2019
We’re halfway through our series on the gospel of Matthew, a study we’ve been calling The Promised King. Throughout the last couple of months, we’ve gained a clearer picture of just who Jesus is and how He fulfilled the more than 400 Old Testament prophecies about the promised Messiah. We’ve also come to understand in a deeper way that, though Jesus was the Messiah promised to Israel, this good news - the message of forgiveness and restored relationship with God - is not just for the Jewish nation, but for all people; for you and for me!
This week, as we continue our study, we’ll be looking at the cost of being a follower of Jesus. Pastor and author James Boice writes, “Discipleship is not simply a door to be entered but a path to be followed. The true disciple is one who follows Christ to the very end.”
What does it look like to follow Jesus? As a church, we want to be people who faithfully live out our discipleship in practical ways. In today's message we look at what that means for us.
