So this past Thursday night I got to do a Guest Spot on Marcus Mangham and Friends. Guest Spot usually means 5 minutes and you're taking the bullet. Taking the bullet means you're going first. I'm learning all this stuff as I go folks so if I'm messing up on these definitions let a dude know, k? So like I was saying. I prepared for the night with the mindset of I'm going first and I'm doing 5 minutes. Turns out I want second and was given 7.
I am really happy about my set. I got a few laughs and of course a few silences where I expected laughs. The crowd was thirsty my friends. At first they just wanted to laugh by the end of the night some of them wanted to be a part of the show. This is comedy man. You prepare for one thing but you never know how it's going to go and we have to be ready to adapt to the situation.
Even though all these jokes I've done several times. I still forced myself to change at least one tag and left room in my mind to adapt to the crowd and take a riff if I needed to. I felt good but stiff for the first part. Once I got really comfortable I was able to remind myself to walk around and use the stage a bit. But for the most part I was really stationary. I also tried to tell myself to not roll up the mic chord. It's a crazy habit and I can't seem to break myself from it. All this is going on in my head while I'm trying to make strangers laugh. It's a rush folks.
Thursday night was my 99th time up on a stage with a microphone trying to make people laugh. I'm really proud I was a part of a Danielle Marrs produced show. The show took place at The Sacramento Comedy Spot, also on the line up were Robert Berry, Aurora Singh, and Mr Drew Shafer. Marcus Mangham of course headlined and the show was hosted by Mr Chris "Swizz Comedy" Smith.
So, here's a short clip of a joke I like to call 8% Battery Life. Before the show I give a little bit of a set up. I hope you enjoy and I hope you come coming back for more laughs and what not.
