Going into Monday… Uhhggg!
I hate my job.
We spend 1/3 of our lives at work.
Can you pay your bills?
NO: Get another job, work up your resume, take some courses, get another smaller degree, go and get a skill in the trades that pays better. have a side job selling stuff on line or a specialty part time job, sell vitamins, water purifiers, do teaching, speaking, crafting, painting, editing… something. I have heard of a woman who paints footballs for parents who are looking for great gifts for kids. She paints the team colors, logos and names of the kids etc… and makes a killing and it is not even her real job… and get this - its all word of mouth. She is not a social media hog.
Yes: Take your time getting another job.
Realize your job is just a way to pay your bills. The real fun comes from realizing that regardless of your job and how much you like it or hate it you are called to influence people through your spiritual gifts.
It’s not about money it’s about influence. If you can have a spiritual influence in your job somehow, it makes the biggest difference in the world. So if you hate your job and make great money, don’t just go after a better job and better money, go after a job where you can be an influence for Christ… Again this doesn’t mean you are looking for a job where people won’t mind if you get up in the cafeteria and preach… no! But you get what I mean… The last secular job I interviewed for I asked my soon to be boss if she would get upset if I during my time at worked talking about Jesus. She said, no if you get your work done and if you respect other peoples issues… i.e. if they don’t want to talk about it- don’t push it. (about a year later we were at a restaurant eating and I was talking to a waitress and praying for her and some disease she just found out she had… my boss said “I remember when you asked me about this at work… but I had no idea you were this passionate about this”.
Why do you hate your job?
3 major reasons:
1- The people, (people don’t leave jobs, they leave boss’s)
You won’t be able to change your people at the place you work… Remember when people complain at work it doesn’t change anything it just makes them more bitter and the work place more negative. So don’t be negative!
2- lack of using your core gifting or skill. (by the way most men have hobbies that use their gifting if they don’t use them at work)
Have you tried asking your boss, or superior if you can somehow use some of your gifting at your job…
If not I would highly recommend you finding a job where you use your gifitng’s and talents.
-3 We will get to that in a few seconds.
Why don’t you change? Money and pain.
You are making great money… is it worth it? Maybe it is, typically it is not…
But you may just be tricked into addiction to money over health (health physically, mentally, spiritually, relationally)
*you don’t want to be that guy who at the end of his life has a lot of money at the expense of being used by God or at the expense of your physical health, relational health etc…)
Why don’t you change #2 pain
You are used to the pain and it beats the pain of the unknown.
But what if….???
If you feel like God is moving on you to try to find a new job, trust him and know he has a reason and he will make it known to you and will guide you, lead you and he has great plans for you. But you gotta be willing to trust him and have faith to move beyond the pain of the unknown.
Finally:
REASON #3 WHY YOU HATE YOUR JOB
You let it define you.
How long are you in a conversation with another man and you ask “what do you do”. You know where that comes from? Genesis 3, from the curse!
Check this out, before the sin in the garden adam and eve worked the garden and multiplied… it was a joy, it was a calling it was what they were meant to do because it was for God…. but then sin entered.
Our jobs are cursed.
You shall work the ground and never be fulfilled… Zey-ahh
It will never be enough… that’s our curse.
Your fulfillment comes from Jesus, not your job….
Yes you want a fun job, challenging job, good paying job-but it still won’t fulfill you. Only God can.
You honestly can have a crappy job (hopefully it pays the bills) and choose to use your spiritual gifts in your job and be fulfilled. and I have seen many men pray for new jobs that allow them to use their spiritual gifts and God grants them their request, because to God that is more important.
A few years ago I worked for a moving company to make some extra money. The job was brutal, but I loved it for a few reasons. I got to share Christ with my co workers non stop. I got to pray for people moving… moving away? I would pray for grace, driving protection etc… for the families. Moving into a new house? I would pray for a blessing and for God to show up in this new chapter of life. You would think that My boss would be mad… just the opposite, he would get referrals like crazy asking for the guy who prays over the people and the house!
Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
