I love to laugh…
If you have ever heard me preach you know I love to make people laugh.
Joy is an energizer… it can propel you through your week.
I don’t know if you have seen the tonight show episode with Jimmy Fallon and Bradley Cooper… if you have not you should youtube it. It gets me everytime.
One of my own favorite memories is as a teenager singing in church- bind us together.
The bible actually says a lot about laughter and joy
Ecc. 3:4 a time to weep and a time to laugh
Job. 8:21 he will fill your mouth with laughter
Prov. 17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine
Psalm 28:7 The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
Luke 15:10 the parables show explicitly that the angels and God rejoice and and express exceeding delight

The material for this list comes from 2 sources. The first is the book "Health Healing and the Amuse System" by Paul E. McGhee and the other from "Roundup" a newsletter from Canyon Ranch, a health resort (www.canyonranch.com).
1. Laughter reduces stress hormone levels so you feel less stressed.
2. Laughter enhances your immunity by improving your mood.
Your immune system is stronger on your "up" days and you are less prone to upper respiratory infections.
3. Laughter causes you to breathe more fully, bringing in more oxygen and releasing toxins.
4. After a good laugh your blood pressure drops, heart rate and breathing slow down and muscle tension decreases.
5. Humor helps you find joy in life, even in stressful times.
6. Laughter increases productivity and creativity.
7. Laughter helps your muscles to relax.
This natural relaxation effect not only helps to reduce stress but it also has been shown to alleviate heart disease, headaches, chronic anxiety and other problems.
8. Laughter alleviates pain in the chronically ill.
Norman Cousins in his book "Head First: The Biology of Hope" noticed that 10 minutes of belly laughter often gave him 2 hours of pain-free sleep.
9. A good belly laugh is cardiac exercise and is referred to by some as internal jogging!
10. Laughter can help to shorten a hospital stay.
Patients say that humor and shared laughter helped to raise their spirits and take their minds off their illnesses. Laughter feels good and it is good for you!
What happened to joy and laughter?
Was there a law passed recently that made it impossible or illegal to laugh?
political correctness has stolen a lot from our society and it has creeped into the church.
Look life is set up to steal our joy.
Family problems and stress: kids, job, marriage, sex life, money, health etc…
Not to mention all the other people out there who want to steal your joy and laughter.
So we have to protect it and go after it and relish it.
Did you know that most adults are at the peak of their laughter at age 4… unless you learn to preserve and nourish it.
Here is your prescription for laughter,
- Call an old friend who makes you laugh: Mitch Alexander, Mike Isbell, Donny Hunt, David Payas, Greg and Gary Schneider…
- Listen to a great comedian (Nate Bargatze)
- Tell a friend or spouse about one of the funniest times you have ever experienced…
- Rejoice and laugh in faith at all that God is doing in your life!
God I don’t know how this will all work out… LOL, but I am waiting to see. I trust you.
