Luther was a powerful preacher but it wasn't Luther's preaching ability that really made the reformation explode, it was the written word in the common language. In order for the Jesuit order to counter the reformation, they needed to counter the foundation of the reformation, the word of God. This they did by using Catholic manuscripts, "corrections" and paraphrases to create their own versions.
